The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 7 - 10, 1982

Sunday, November 7, 1982

 

It’s a mostly sunny (day), still on the cool side. I done up the regular work. I wrote five letters. George, Peg, Milan and Betty, Esther and Cliff, Carmen and that is about all. Frank, who has been Kim’s houseguest AFS student, left. Also Zak’s friend Chan Rahn, Cambodian child, went home too. Walt hauled wood. Bill watched TV. Billie in and out.


 

 

 

 

Monday, November 8, 1982

 

Mostly a sunny nice day, a few clouds going by. I done regular work then I did the washing. Then I went down to Betty’s. She cleaned up her house then she and Billie put the paper around the bottom of her barn and tightened it all up for winter. I watched TV soaps. Dorothea called in PM then in evening. She went up to Delores’s to be there when the lady from the elderly aid department called to see Delores.

 

 

 

Tuesday, November 9, 1982

 

A nice day. I done my regular ironing. I made up pot roast and made a custard. Pot roast was very good. Dorothea and Betty to Portland to the dentist doctor. They are having their teeth worked on. I watched TV’s soaps this PM. I called Fern and talked.

 

 

 

Wednesday, November 10, 1982 got white steer from David

 

A very nice sunny day, on the cool side. Bill had to go for checkup. Betty took his car over and got it fixed. The brakes. Then when he got home we went to town because tomorrow is a holiday. Got home in time to watched TV programs. Bill called at Dorothea and David’s. Billie called at Fern’s.
