The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

December 4 - 7, 1982

Saturday, December 4, 1982 Over 60°

Well a nice day today, it was a record-breaking day. Temperatures up to 64. It broke all records for this date. A very nice sunny day. I got up early, got my breakfast. Then Bill, Billie and Zak didn’t get up until after 7 AM. I done my regular work. Changed beds, swept, dusted. Made bread and washed floors. Kim and Gwen down to North Windham shopping. Kim got a permanent and she looks like a million dollars, very attractive. She wanted to go to the senior play (to see Bobby) but had to babysit. Zak went home, rode his pony. Billie and David called at Gordon Week’s this PM. Dave called this morning for a little while.

A dreary day. I wrote letters and some cards (Christmas). I did some work at the desk. Billie in and out all day. Kim called. Billie hauled manure in PM here and at Betty’s after it cleared some. The Hortons picked out the Christmas trees today.

It started out as cloudy, rain and foggy. It cleared some about noon. I did a wash. Made two squash pies, two macaroni and cheeses. I worked at the desk and did up the housework then I watched TV soaps in PM. Bill out in his car today.

A nice day. I got up early and got the work all done. Billie took his walk with Heidi. Bill went to the doctors. David called. We left about 11 AM to go to Norway. We shopped at Ashton’s, Hobbs, Ame’s,  Shop and Save and Pikes then at Adam’s Bakery and IGA. We got the Christmas shopping all done.
