The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

25000 Views - Thanks Russia!

Today we reached a big milestone. In 2014 I started posting Nanny's Diaries to share with family and friends near and far. Today we reached 25,000 views! Amazing.

Nanny would never understand what the internet or a blog is - she barely mastered a cordless phone before she died. She never did quite get how to leave a message on an answering machine. Wait for the BEEP Nanny! Instead she would leave her message while the outgoing message played and chances are if you heard a message that only said ALLED - it was the tail end of her message NANNY CALLED.

Nanny's first diary was 1944. While she missed the years 1949-1953, she then wrote in her diaries until her death. Every Christmas she was gifted with a new diary for the following year. She may have missed some days and messed up on other dates, but her diaries are a priceless treasure that have been used as entertainment, a reference for important dates and a means to recall past events that have grown blurry with time.

So today we reached 25000 views. If Nanny was still here and keeping her diary, this would have been what she called a RED LETTER DAY. (Big events usually got a capitalized lettering at the top of the page written in red!)

Below are some interesting tidbits about the readers of this blog.

Most readers of the blog come from Facebook. Not surprising since I post sometime on Nanny's Diaries Facebook page. The second largest group of readers come right into the blog directly.

The top two blog postings are 1953 and 1952 respectively. That is interesting because Nanny didn't keep diaries in those two years, but I did post pictures in those two blog posts  and viewers must have found them interesting.

Most interesting is where the majority of our readers come from. The number one group of readers are US at 15787 views. What is surprising is the next four countries that round out the top 5. Coming in second is RUSSIA with 2568 views. Third is FRANCE with 2194, fourth place is PORTUGAL at 555 views and lastly, strangely, is BRAZIL with 286 views.

For those who are techie - rounding out the info, the top 3 Operating Systems used to read Nanny's Diaries are Windows 59%, Android 16% and Apple 10%. The top 3 Browsers were Chrome 54%, Firefox 2%, and Internet Explorer 12%.

Thank you Nanny for the diaries and laughs and Thank You to all the readers for taking the time to read Nanny's Diary postings. See you again at 50K.
