The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 7 - 10, 1965



Wednesday, April 7, 1965

Fair today. Betty, Jeanette, her boy, Carmen and I all over to Norway to look at trailers. I wish both of those girls could have one if it could be made possible. It takes MONEY. Billie sick tonight, nerves. I got a nice letter from Susan.



Thursday, April 8, 1965

Snow all over this morning. Cloudy, snowy and messy all day. Betty and Mike over to Harrison to work. Then home, up to Lil’s and to town. I done my regular work and washed my kitchen curtains and windows. Mike over to get his hair cut tonight. Bill dug some parsnips tonight. Cow’s passed TB test.



Friday, April 9, 1965

Today I done my regular work. Betty, Mike and Carmen to town etc. Mike and Betty had a disagreement. Bill, Carmen and I to town tonight. Had fried parsnips for supper, very good.



Saturday, April 10, 1965

A nice day. Bill home at noon. He began on the porch roof. I done regular work. Betty and I to town. Mike, Billie and Betty hauled trailer off. Billie raked. Got letter from Dorothea.
