The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Saturday, January 8, 1983

A very nice sunny day. I done up regular work. I swept, dusted, washed floors. I made some bread. Kim got up about 8:30. She had breakfast. Carmen came up to go fishing with Bill. He went to the doctors to get B12 shot. They went over to Crystal Lake then came back and went up to Stearns Pond. All day but didn’t get anything. Kim worked on Billie’s new truck cleaning windows inside and out, also washed inside the cab. She done a very good job. Billie was so pleased. She went home to do her Saturday chores and get ready to go out for supper. The whole family dressed up and went out for supper up to North Conway. Dorothea and Dave here in forenoon and evening. Betty took Billie to town shopping in PM.

Mike came and got Carmen and Kim. They went ice fishing and they had a very good time all day. Kim very pleased they said. She had a good time.

Cloudy all day. I done up regular work. David and Dorothea came and did chores and Carmen. She has been busy all day and getting ready to go back to school tomorrow. I hate to see her go. I made her some chocolate chip cookies. I did a big wash today. Billie getting the license straightened out for the truck and insurance too. Carmen took him to town.
