The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 5 - 7, 1983 Billie Buys New Truck (to him)

Wednesday, January 5, 1983

A partly cloudy day. I did a dite of washing. I done up the work. Susan came and Carmen called. Billie rested very good last night. He didn’t do much today. I got ready and went down to see Carmen’s new apartment she changed over. She and Betty changed it all around. In late PM Charlene called and helped Billie get his bills made out and straightened out. Dorothea came with David this morning and tonight. Carmen here for supper. She enjoyed that. Also she went fishing and Betty up to Stearns today. Bill to the doctors for B12 shot.

Well when we got up this morning the bare ground was covered with snow. It snowed off and on all forenoon. I done up regular work. Carmen came up and done chores and had breakfast. David and Dorothea came. Betty came, she went to town. Carmen and Billie to town. Billie had some bank business to do. Carmen did my shopping. Today Billie bought Mert’s old truck, Mert got a new one. A nice looking truck. I hope it lasts him a long time.

Partly cloudy. It cleared away in late PM. I washed windows, did some ironing. I had fish for supper. Bill down to town to get his B12 shot and a few groceries. He went up to where Carmen and Lisa was fishing up to their camp lot. No luck. They came home at about 4:30. They had a very good time. Dorothea and Dave here in a.m. and p.m. Kim came up here and stayed all night. She was pleased and we was very pleased to have her. Billie is doing quite well.
