The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 7 - 10, 1986

Friday, November 7, 1986

 

Well a little of all kinds of weather. Not too much sun. I did a wash and a big ironing. Carmen came and got the shopping list, got the groceries. Also went to Thurlow’s and to Sears for me. Billie working outside all day, his foot was quite sore tonight. We got to watch the TV soaps. Milan called today.

 

 

 

Saturday, November 8, 1986

 

A mild day but cloudy, showery and foggy. Milan and Betty called, also David stopped in a minute. I did all the work, washed floors, baked beans etc. Betty up for a minute.

 

 

 

Sunday, November 1986 Zack has been sick

 

A cloudy day. I got up and got the work done. Walt up for coffee. Then Eddie and Kim came for breakfast. Carmen called. I wrote to Zack. It rained today. Kim and Eddie went home in their new truck. David came down to help Billie do a few chores for Billie. Betty and Walt out, they got us some Italian sandwiches for supper. Zack called tonight, he has been sick and was kind of home sick.

 

 

 

Monday, November 10, 1986

 

A very nice day, on the cool side. I did the washing. Prepared vegetables etc. for supper. Made a cornflake pudding. Also got around to watch TV soaps in PM. Billie’s toe is still bad. And the new place on the heel is bad too. Dorothea called tonight for a little while.
