The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 26 - 28, 1986 Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 26, 1986

Well this morning Zack was up for breakfast. It seems so good to have her here again. He is such a good boy. I did some more cooking, chocolate, date filled and lemon sponge pie, frosted the chocolate cake. David called this morning on his way home from work. Bill been reading all day. Billie didn’t do much today, outside couple times. It has rained so hard all PM.

Thursday, November 27, 1986 DINNER AT CARMEN, DENNIS AND BROGAN’S

It was cloudy in early morning then it got sunny and not too cold. Got up, done up the work. We all got ready to go Carmen and Dennis and Brogan’s for Thanksgiving in Harrison Maine. Well this is the first time I ever ate Thanksgiving outside of Bridgton. We had a very nice Turkey dinner with all the fixings. It was a very nice dinner, so good. Fern, Bill, Milan, Betty, Billie, Walt, Betty, Zack, Eddie, Kimberly, Dennis, Carmen, Brogan and me. Dorothea and David had dinner out with Jeff at a restaurant in Raymond Maine, Ye Olde Homestead. Kim and Eddie went back home.

Friday, November 28, 1986 Cleaned Furnace

A real nice day. Zack up for breakfast and came up at night for a cookout steak. We didn’t eat out though. I made a squash pie for supper because Zack wanted it. I did a big wash today. Bill to town. Carmen came over and called at Betty’s today. The Dixon Oil Company man came and cleaned the furnace today or late in PM.
