The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

December 11 - 13, 1986 Tree Decorating

Thursday, December 11, 1986 Brogan Alyssa here for first time to wrap gifts at her great Nanny’s

 

I got my work done up, watched the programs. In PM Carmen came, she and Betty to town. Then came and they wrapped the Christmas presents. It was Brogan’s first being here when that was done. She was good. Billie up to Dorothea’s. Milan called.

 

 

 

Friday, December 12, 1986

 

A nice day, most all day. It was a dite cloudy in a.m. I did the wash. Got some more cards off today. Bill didn’t go out today. Carmen and Dennis called at Betty’s yesterday. Betty H and Betty S to Windham today. Betty H down to exercise class tonight with Dorothea.

 

 

 

Saturday, December 13, 1986 Brogan Alyssa here while the tree was decorated. The first time. Carmen got a new dryer

 

A nice sunny day, on the cool side. I got breakfast, did up the regular work. I washed the floors. David called and had coffee and visited. Milan called. I made two batches of fudge and a cake today. In PM Carmen and Dennis came. They took Billie’s truck and went down and got the Christmas trees. In PM after they got home and took their tree, then Carmen and Brogan came back for supper. Before she came I did some windows. Then after supper we got the tree in and decorated. She did a very good job. Betty called on her way up to Joy’s. Betty Smith was going too. Brogan was good all day.
