The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Monday, January 5, 1987

 

I done the wash. Had odds and ends for supper. Did the or some ironing. I defrosted refrigerator. I made a pudding. I got my mail off. Bill to town.

 

 

 

Tuesday, January 6, 1987

 

I done up the morning work. Carmen came and clean. It was kind of cloudy. Billie’s foot about the same. Bill read again. We watched the soaps. Billie and Zack over to Norway to Shop and Save. Carmen did mine down here. We had fried ham for supper. I made a pie today. I cooked some jelly. I done the stove over. Carmen cleaned the house today. Fern gave Joan a hard time today. Dorothea got shook up. She is apt to be that way. I’m sorry.

 

 

 

Wednesday, January 7, 1987

 

A partly cloudy day, not much sun. I done up my work. Billie up to get milk and up to Dorothea and David’s. Milan called here. I worked at the desk. Bill reading. Betty and I over to Carmen’s. Her house looks very nice. Brogan Alyssa is so cute. I came home, watched the soaps. Zack and Walt out today. Zack got his picture taken for his drivers license over to Lewiston.

 

 

 

Thursday, January 8, 1987

 

A partly cloudy and sunny day. I made a lemon pie. I done regular work. I worked at the desk. Milan called. Billie to Dr. Doyle. He told him he has infection on his heel. Prescribed some $80 medication for him to take care of the infection. Zack came up today and brought up some more albums. Also he get medicine for Billie.
