The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A nice sunny day. I been busy all day. I washed, did an ironing. Also other jobs. I worked at the desk. Zack came up. He has his license with his picture on it now. He drives a lot. He and Carmen to Lewiston today. Bill got new glasses today. Dorothea and Joy to a stroke specialist in Lewiston today. Joy can’t get any disability. I’m sorry she has a hard time.

Cloudy and snow. I got up early, got my work to going. David and Milan came and had coffee and donuts. I made a pudding, washed floors. It began to snow about 10 o’clock. It lets up a little after dark. Then it started again. Zack came up and had breakfast this morning. Carmen and Brogan came this afternoon. Carmen went to town. I took care of the little Princess. She was dressed so cunning and a beautiful smile for everyone. She is just like a doll. Carmen and Brogan down to Betty’s for supper to say goodbye to Zack.

No one called except Walt was here a little while. He and Betty on their way home from the airport. They brought honey dipped donuts and so they had coffee and donuts. Bill reading all day. Billie too.
