The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 8 - 10, 1984 Kimberly or Kimberley - Nanny always struggled with Names. Zak or Zack, Carmen or Carman

Friday, June 8, 1984 KIMBERLY ALLIE HORTON, Hot, KIM GRADUATED WITH HONORS FROM LAKE REGION HIGH

Tonight at 8 PM at Lake Region High School KIMBERLEY ALLIE HORTON with all her friends and classmates marched into the gym for the graduation exercises. It was a large class and the hall was full. She graduated same as Carmen with honor. Bill didn’t go. Dorothea, Carmen and I went, Betty, Walt and Zak went, Tom and Charlene also. After the graduation the kids all went to a all night party, going to the beach tomorrow. We was glad to see Carmen last night. She is quite upset about her struggling to get her bills paid. I feel so sorry for her.

It is a very hot day. Cooled off tonight a dite. We got the work done up, got ready to go up to the camp (Twin Oaks) for Kim’s graduation party. It was very nice and she got a lot of nice gifts. $400 in money. Carmen was there, she had a nice relaxing day. Alan didn’t bother her all day. Kim had some of her friends up to the party. Debbie Woodberry, her friend Steve Prouty, and Gwen Garland. Then they went to another party at Casco and that was the end of it all. Now she is looking for work.
