The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

August 6 - 9, 1984 Milan Arrives

Monday, August 6, 1984 HOT, KIM HOME

Today Kim came home from camp for good. Now she has got to get rested then do other things. She will be going away this fall to college. I did a big wash, it has been a very hot day. I picked a few beans. Zak washed and waxed Billie’s truck. I have been thinking of Carmen all day. I hope the best will come to her sooner or later. I love her so much and I want to see her happy. I hope and pray the right guy comes along soon. I dite of improvement in Joy.

Tuesday, August 7, 1984 Betty S left for California, Milan came about 3 PM for a visit

Well, I picked some beans. A beautiful day after fog cleared. Today about 3 PM Milan came. I cooked chicken and the last of the peas. Bill to town. Zak up today, he was at Fern’s mowing. Carmen up and brought Betty’s car back. Now she is on her own to get to work down there. That darn Alan. It is because of him she is in such a situation. She is in a quite upset condition because of him. She is so nervous all the time.

It was clear today, no humidity but very hot. I done up the work, picked beans. Milan and Billie and Zak went and got blueberries. I got those into the deep freeze. They got some for Dorothea and Betty. Betty and kids worked on string beans all day. In evening Betty, Dorothea, Milan and I called at Fern’s. She isn’t very good.
