The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 15 - 18, 1984 Zak Finishes Middle School

Friday, June 15, 1984

Clear but very windy. I done a few odds and end jobs, washed, made a pie, rhubarb and rhubarb sauce. Betty and Kim called. Zak finished Junior High and will enter Lake Region High this fall, a Freshman. For his sake I’ll be glad when he gets through. Carmen and Alan down to Betty’s tonight. Alan brought his car back to Walt. It wasn’t in the best of condition. Two payments due, no insurance on it. They was down there for some time. Kim got a call about a job and she has it. Will leave Sunday.

On the coolish side. I cleaned up the whole house, washed floors, made rolls. Made a cake. In PM Bill and I went over to Waterford to help Betty and Walt, the car broke down. It was Alan’s car. We drove down to see where Kim will be working on McWain Pond. Kim down to Debbie’s in evening. They will play games. I hate to have her go. Carmen has gone now Kim is leaving. Billie cleaned the garage and the tyup. Bill cultivated the garden.

Sunday, June 17, 1984 Kim gone away to work

Kind of on the cloudy side in PM, in a.m. it was nice and sunny. We called at Walt and Betty’s and then up to Dorothea and David’s. Carmen came up this weekend for Father’s Day. Bill got $95. He will get some new clothes. Kim left about 8 PM for Waterford at (blank) to work for the summer. Assistant cook, I hope she will like it and stay.
