The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Another quite nice day. I got up early, got the work done up and did some washing. Then I got ready and to North Conway New Hampshire. I went with Milan, Dorothea, Betty, Kim and Zak. I did a lot of shopping, groceries and desk articles. We had lunch up there. Got home at about 3 PM. We had a good supper.

It was cloudy with showers. Late PM it cleared off. Cloudy again tonight. I did a wash. Made a pie, got chance to watch shows. Dorothea, Lorraine, Jason and Shelley came in PM. Joy is much improved. Billie to town. Bill to the doctors. Kim called, also Zak.

Wednesday, August 15, 1984 Milan and Zak

Another one of those awful hot and humid days. When we got up it was raining after raining all night. It stopped raining around 8 AM and about 9:30 to 10 AM it began to clear. Sun got out some and around 2PM the blue sky showed up and ended up a very nice sunny hot day. Milan and Zak left around 6:45, it was raining hard, for Moosehead Lake region in northern Maine. I’m glad Zak had a chance to go. Kim up to North Conway with Joleen Bell. Betty called a couple times. Billie out two or three times, took some cukes over to Susan, up to Week’s, down to Betty’s, up to Dorothea and David’s. He is feeling better. I ironed.

A very hot day, not quite as much humidity. I done some odd jobs, worked at my desk. Betty and Kim and I went up over the Ridge to try out the car. Called at Dorothea’s. Milan and Zak got home about 11 AM. Bill to Norway and called at Clyde Rowe’s place. Kim and Betty took the car down to showed Carmen. I hope she gets her escort back.
