The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Saturday, October 6, 1990 paperwork, Carmen met someone at Fryeburg

A very nice hot day. It has been a long day. Haven’t seen Brogan. Dorothea came and did Billie’s paperwork. I got the supper. Betty was going to but she had a cold. She had to go and get Walt at the airport at about 8 PM from his visit was Zack in Washington DC. Zack is doing okay. Jason didn’t come. David down for coffee. Carmen over to Fryeburg Fair today and she met a nice guy. Hope someday they will meet again.

Jason came in they hauled hay up to the shelter. Also done some other chores. Billie’s feet are sore. Walt up for breakfast coffee. He looked so tired. I wrote to Esther  and got snaps ready too for her to look at. I did ironing. The colored leaves are beautiful. Someone looked at Zack’s car. Carmen to the fair again today and saw the guy.

This is a holiday in observance of Columbus Day. October 12. Done regular work and the washing. Billie to the eye doctor for the last time. Now he can get his glasses. Brogan went with Billie and Carmen to Portland. We went over to Shorelands for supper for Betty Smith’s birthday. Eva, Dorothea, Betty, Joy, Carmen, Brogan, me and the guest of honor, Betty Smith. Had a very good supper. Came back to Betty’s for gifts and a party. Very nice and she liked her gifts very much. Dorothea brought David, Fern and Billie’s suppers to them.
