The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Friday, June 29, 1990 Robert’s 85th birthday

 

I done up the work, done a washing. I been out with Betty today all around. Carmen did a good business today. Been kind of a miserable day. Cloudy, rain showers etc. Went down to Betty’s to see the things she got at the Brackett’s. Dorothea called. Zack here for supper.

 

 

 

Saturday, June 30, 1990

 

Up and got my work done and got ready to go to the Brackett’s yard sale. David came for coffee this morning. Betty H came. We went to the sale then up to Carmen’s. She done a good business today. Zak here this afternoon. Walt gone to Lewiston and he and Betty went somewhere this PM. Brogan gone to her father’s for overnight. I did a dite of wash. Saw deer in the pasture this morning. Dorothea to her class of 55 reunion tonight. She looked very nice all dressed up. Her new hair.

 

 

 

Sunday, July 1, 1990

 

A quite cloudy day, not very hot. Walt didn’t come for coffee. He has been sick all day. Zak here off and on all day. Carmen came early and on her way to get strawberries. Brogan home early from her father’s. Kim worked today. We saw or Billie saw the deer in with the cows this morning again. I made out the bills, wrote to Esther. Dorothea called this p.m, she had a good time at the reunion last night. Zack left here tonight to go to look for a job.
