The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

August 18 - 20, 1990 Visiting with Donnie

Saturday, August 18, 1990

A beautiful day. They all got ready and went to camp for breakfast this morning. And a baked bean supper tonight. A wicked hot day. I didn’t care if I went or not. It was too hot. I didn’t do much, sat around all day. I did some reading. Billie didn’t do much either. His eye is improving. Carmen and Bro up to camp, got so tired. Kim came up and made a good long visit. We was very pleased.

Much cooler. On the cloudy side. It was much cooler, had to have a sweater to sit on the porch. Walt up for coffee and David came also. Today Carmen and Brogan went to Fun Town USA. They went with Leslie and Joey. They had a very good time, got awful tired. The same activities here today as yesterday. Was in the house most all day. I wrote to Esther and Zak.

Monday, August 20, 1990 Saw Donald O. Ayers today

Today we went up to Farmington healthcare at (blank) to see Donny. We was very very glad to see him. He looked very good. Neat and clean. He has a wonderful place there. It is beautiful. Dorothea, Betty, Carmen and I all went and Brogan. It was a beautiful ride. After Dorothea got home David was taken sick as she was getting supper. So she took, had to take, him to hospital NCM. It was kidney stones. He was very sick and awful pain.
