The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

September 27 - 29, 1984

Thursday, September 27, 1984

Quite a nice day. I got my work done up. Watched Days of Our Lives then Betty came. She and I down to Fern’s. She and Carmen went to Norway to grocery shop. I stayed with her, Fern, while they was gone. Got home in time to watched the programs. Billie worked in the raspberry bed. Zak helped him and he got it all done. It looks very good outside up. Kim came up and brought up a salad for Billie’s supper. It has been on the cool side. Talked with Bill, he won’t be home till Saturday.

Friday, September 28, 1984 Carmen and Kimberly moved

Betty and Walt on a trip to Rhode Island to sign papers for Vi’s house. They brought rest of the furniture home. Kim went to her girlfriend’s father’s funeral. Audra shepherd’s father. Carmen moved some clothes down to their apartment today. Kim down there cleaning all day. Tonight after Betty and Walt got home, all hands turned to and helped them move. Lisa, Steve, Dorothea, Zak and Betty. They worked till way late. I was at Fern’s this PM while Carmen was away. She is getting worse, not better.
