The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A nice sunny day. It is clear but on the cool side with wind blowing some. I done up the work. Also cleaned the stove oven, watched morning soaps. Billie to town, Carmen and Kim called. Today Dorothea and Betty had to take Fern to the hospital for blood test. She has to be down there for five hours.

Thursday, December 6, 1984 Kim got a perm

Well everything is a mess around. Snow bad, traveling and rainy. I been busy etc. I watched some of my shows. Dorothea called. Kim’s hair looks very good.

Not a too good day. Phonie came and plowed again. What a lot of snow for the first storms. It is deep and piled high. Betty and I to town. Also Bill, Dorothea, Betty, Carmen and me all went over to North Bridgton to look at a house, Bob and Martha Holden’s. They are trying to buy a house or thinking about it. Down to Fern’s.

A fair day, on the cool side. Some sun. I done up my work, made cream puffs. Washed floors. Went down to Fern’s about 11:30 to meet a woman that came to see about working for Fern. Billie busy all day. Dominic Cardosi died today. Carmen working again today.
