The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

May 8 - 10, 1984

Tuesday, May 8, 1984 Bill still having bleeding problems

I cleaned all my silverware. It wasn’t a very pleasant day. No sun, all heavy rain. I cleaned Betty’s silver pieces and all of mine. I got supper to going, made a banana pudding. Watched TV in PM. Billie down to see Bill, he is still bleeding and having more blood. He isn’t doing too good yet. I expect he will pick up soon. Betty and I down after supper. We talked with Dr. Marcia. He said they don’t know what else can be done.

Also I picked some over for Betty’s folks too. Billie down to the hospital. He still isn’t just right. Dorothea went down too. Betty, Carmen and Kim tonight. Police department called Betty again today about Alan’s bouncing checks.

A quite nice day, on the windy side. I done up my work. Made a lemon pie. I picked some more dandelions. I got a batch ready for Dorothea. I cooked a chicken for supper and had Carmen down for supper. Billie, Dorothea and Betty went to see Bill, he is improved some. May come home tomorrow. Walt got another notice from the bank saying Alan’s April car payment had not been paid. Poor Carmen, she is in such a turmoil all because of what we all see in Alan and hope she will see it before it is too late.
