The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 20 - 23, 1984 Easter Sunday

Friday, April 20, 1984

A cloudy dreary day. Billie raked. I made a cake. Did a big wash, washed windows. Kim worked in a.m. Zak down to the brook all day. She and Zak lost his glasses in the brook.

Saturday, April 21, 1984

On the cool side. I was very busy all day. Made bread, rolls, pies, baked beans, washed the floors, swept and dusted. Dorothea didn’t have to work at Fern’s today. She was busy at home all day. Kim came up, also Zak. They lost his glasses down in the brook yesterday. Kim got her hair done this PM.

Sunday, April 22, 1984 Easter Sunday

A very nice mild day. It was cold, especially in the early morning. We had Easter dinner, the Horton family and Alan Barry came with Carmen. Ham, spinach greens, salad, hot cross buns, hot bread, mashed potato, sweet potato, lemon sponge and apple pie and daffodil cake and ice cream.

Monday, April 23, 1984 clear, sunny and mild. Ate on the back porch

A beautiful day. I did my washing and ironing. I washed the kitchen floor and cleaned my bureau draws. It is been up in the 80° temps today. Bill trying to pry up a rock in the backyard. Zak came up to help him and Billie. It seemed good to have the doors opened up. Ate on the back porch tonight.
