The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 14 - 17, 1982

Monday, June 14, 1982 Billie to Dr. Bell over to Fryeburg.

Well another miserable day. Cloudy, foggy and rain. What a miserable spring we are having. I did the wash. I cooked a chicken for supper and had Kim up. She was pleased and enjoyed it very much. Dr. told him one leg is longer than the other. He has got to have it built up gradually. It has given him a lot of trouble.

Tuesday, June 15, 1982 Bill and Betty started on the camp porch

A fair day. Sunny yet it was a hazy cover. The temp was fair. I cleaned up the house and did the ironing. Today Bill and Betty started to do the porch up to the camp. They got quite a lot of it done. Billie done a lot of picking up out around and cleaned up the garage. Monica came over and got some flowers for Susan. Kim called. Bill is much improved it seems.

A little cloudiness, rain and sun. It was very hot and humid in late PM when the sun did shine a few hours. Now tonight it is really cloudy and getting ready to rain tomorrow. This is wicked weather. It is hated by everyone. Bill and Betty worked at the camp today. Billie did a lot of odds and end jobs. Kim’s class supposed to go on picnic but didn’t, going tomorrow I hope.  According to the weather forecast they are more apt not to go.

A miserable day, most of the day. It cleared some later. Bill and Betty didn’t work at the camp. They mowed their lawns. Billie mowed. Dorothea and David got there truck. It looks like new.
