The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

It started out cloudy, but it cleared off with just fair weather clouds, in early a.m. it rained. Bill, Kim and I went up to Dorothea and David’s to see the new calf the heifer Rosie had. A very pretty Brockle head calf early this morning. Dorothea’s house looks very nice. She has got quite a few new antiques to start in her business. She and Barbara went up to Stoneham today, they bought some things. Kim cleaned my kitchen cupboards. Zak and Betty up to the shelter working.

A very nice day, on the cool side. I went to town with Dorothea shopping. Then we got back Dorothea and Betty took Bill to the hospital for eye operation. I been very busy, washed, cleaned all the draws in the kitchen. Washed some windows, cooked a steak supper. Zak is up for supper and all night. Kim cleaned her room out to have her floors sanded, now the man can come until Tuesday. She is sleeping out in the apartment till her room is ready. Billie has raked, swept and cleaned up all the yard and driveway today. Been working out there all day. It looks cleaner than a smelt. Zak went with Dorothea and Betty. He bought some antiques.
