The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A most beautiful day. Bill and I to Dorothea’s for a brief call. She is working now out in Falmouth for a couple old ladies. I done some shopping in Windham. Betty to a meeting in Naples.

 

 

 

Saturday, March 5, 1977

 

It is cloudy today. I done my regular work, cooked the couple pies and bread. Billie out in barn doing odd jobs. The cow is okay now. Zak came up and stayed all night. Betty and Walt gone to a party at Dawn’s given by some of their friends. Fern up for supper.

 



 

 

 

 

Sunday, March 6, 1977

 

Cloudy again. I done up my work and worked on puzzle. Carmen came for Zak about 9 AM. Carmen rode. Kids out door, hope they don’t catch cold. Billie relaxed and up to Chet’s in p.m. Fern went to see Lloyd. He is quite sick.

 

 

 

Monday, March 7, 1977 Bill worked at camp

 

Another cloudy day. On the cool sharp side. I done a dite of washing. I defrosted refrigerator and other jobs. KIMBERLY home with a cold and asthma attack. Carmen had attacked at school and came home early. Susan and kids called, Chris has an ear infection. Bill worked at camp today painting.
