The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 5 - 8 1977

Wednesday, January 5, 1977 Lloyd to NFC in Portland

A very nice sunny day. I got up early, done up my regular work. I also did a wash. I went down to Betty’s early, we got ready and left at about 8:15 to go to the hospital. We had to wait at the hospital for them to get Lloyd ready to go to National Medical Care Hospital of Therapy in Portland. Betty, Fern and I took him down. He was quite good. Then Betty brought us home and she and Carmen went right back for a dentist appointment and Carmen a back check up. Bill and Ilan fishing.

Friday, January 7, 1977 BIG STORM

It was snowing when we got up this morning. It wasn’t too bad until about dark, the storm got heavy and the wind began to blow. It snowed very hard. It was bad all day along the coast and south of New England. I done up the regular work, went to town early. Delores went too. Then I worked on the puzzle.

Saturday, January 8, 1977 Billie sent income tax

This is been a beautiful day. It has been windy. Bill up early and out plowing. Billie done the shoveling. Walt fixed Billie’s income tax and he mailed it. It is colder tonight.
