The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

This is been a most wonderful day, sunny, very mild and the snow settled a lot. I did a washing. Other jobs. My leg quite lame today. In p.m. we went up to see May Beam’s cottage with Betty. Came home, got supper, got the clothes in. They dried so good outside. Also Mr. Saltman called. Fern finally heard from Portland that Lloyd is coming back to this hospital today. Also he is in serious condition. Betty better today.

Tuesday, February 15, 1977 LLOYD BACK TO NMH today

This is been a cloudy rainy flurries and some sun break through. I went down and helped Betty get her house cleaned up. We went to town shopping. Came home, got ready and went down and got Fern and we went to do a couple of errands for Fern then up to the hospital to see the ambulance drive-up Willett Road when we got to CMP, so we followed them right to the hospital. His condition is serious, very weakened condition. Extremely high blood pressure, very thin and his mind is quite mixed up.
