The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Nice and sunny, cold. A very nice day. Betty and Carmen came up tonight for supper with Billie. Fern also, we had scallops and french fries. Very good. Fern, Carmen and I to town. We called at Bob’s. Bill got mad at me about paying a bill. He makes me so mad too. Billie took Betty and Carmen home after I came home from town.

Saturday, March 12, 1966

Nice and sunny in the morning. Clouded in a.m. and p.m. Carmen and Betty up here. Fern up for supper. Bill took them home after supper. Billie down state with Lawrence. It began snowing about dark. I watched TV until late. Bill still mad.

Sunday, March 13, 1963 SNOW

Got up this morning, it was snowing. Bill was called out to work at 6 AM. He worked about four hours. It was a nasty gray, dreary stormy day. I went down to stay with Betty and Carmen. Came home. Bill came after me. Fern and Lloyd were here. Billie out or down country with Lawrence buying cattle. Billie bought a steer today over to Bill Kimball’s in Waterford.
