The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 13 - 16, 1966



Thursday, January 13, 1965

A very cold morning. I done up my work. Betty and Carmen came up with Lloyd. Here for a few hours. Billie and I took them home. She did a bit of bank business, depositing money, got a few groceries. Bill and I called on them in evening.



Friday, January 14, 1966 CHAIR

A nice mild day. Betty and Carmen came up and got me. I went down and Betty bought her a new comfortable chair. We went up to her apartment, she done up her work. She brought me home, stayed for an hour or so, went home. Her chair came. Randy H sent her $20. Also called her and talked with her. Carmen tired. I didn’t go to town tonight. Billie and I down in p.m. Lloyd will go to work Monday Dr. told him today. Kennard called also.



Saturday, January 15, 1966

Cold, zero this morning. I done up my work, done some figuring. Betty called, she was sick. She and Carmen came up for supper. Betty didn’t feel too good. Fern and Lloyd called also. Billie and I down town doing the grocery shopping.  Awful cold today and this evening.



Sunday, January 16, 1966

15 below this morning. I got up about 8 o’clock. Got breakfast done up, my work, got my chicken in baking. Bill went down to get Carmen and Betty. It is been so cold all day. Kennie, Dot and Bob called. I wrote my letters.
