The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 6 - 9, 1966



Sunday, February 6, 1966

A nice sunny day. Had a nice weekend. Big business over in the ski tow. Kennie, Dot called. Frances and Hermon. I wrote my letters. Betty and Carmen want up today. Mike was over visiting them. Betty and Carmen brought the dirty clothes up. Billie off with Lawrence to get cattle.



Monday, February 7, 1966

Cold this morning. I done my washing. Betty and Carmen up all day and for supper. We talked and discussed many things. Billie and I took Betty and Carmen home after supper.



Tuesday, February 8, 1966 6 below this morning

Another one of those very nice days. Cold last night and six below this morning. I done up my regular work. Got my clothes in, ironed, defrosted and cleaned the refrigerator inside and out. Made chocolate pudding etc. Keith came tonight, he and Billie got WOOD. Also they took the desk down to Betty’s. Mike over tonight $24. Billie got two new tires.



Wednesday, February 9, 1966

A beautiful day. I did up regular work, made a beef soup and dumplings. Betty and Carmen up all day, they got birthday cards from Dorothea, Valentines from Mike. I went down town with her. We got a letter from Dorothea. Kennard called. They worked on the lines, telephone, a new cable was strung for my private phone.
