The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 15 - 18, 1966



Friday, April 15, 1966

A very nice day. I got up early, cleaned up Betty’s house. Kennard came down and got us. We came home, had breakfast. I done up the work here, took a bath. Carmen out a lot today, it is a beautiful day. In evening Bill and I went down to the hospital to see Betty and Kimberly. Mike was there too. He rode downtown with us. Bob hurt his fingers today. Got them bandaged at NCM hospital.



Saturday, April 16, 1966 Kimberly A Boutilier

A beautiful day. Betty and KIMBERLY ALLIE came home from the hospital. Kimberly four days old. Mike got Betty from the hospital. He likes his new baby very much. He didn’t stay with Betty as he had planned. Betty, Carmen, Kimberly and Fern here for supper. Betty? Girls and I done Betty’s grocery shopping. I went down and stayed all night with Betty. She is kind of nervous.



Sunday, April 17, 1966

A very nice sunny day. Betty and I got her work done, gave Kimberly her bath  and had Bill come after us about 10:30. We had breakfast here. Bill and Billie ate too. Bill and Billie raked and cleaned up the lawns. Billie got his fencing done. Betty here all day. Kimberly very good all day. She is a sweet little bunch. Put the clothes line out back today. Fern, Lloyd, Aunt Ava, Kennie and Dot called.



Monday, April 18, 1966 Clothes Out Back



A very nice day. A little on the cool side with a little wind, but nice and clear. I washed, hung clothes out back for the first time. Had smelts for supper Mike gave us. They began on Lloyd’s timber today. Someone came back to look at Lloyd’s house. Also they were there Sunday. Bill and I down to Betty and girls tonight.
