The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 10 - 13, 1966



Thursday, February 10, 1966 40 to 50° above

Another nice day. I went down town with Fern and Lloyd to Betty and Carmen’s. Betty and Dawn up here. Carmen here while Betty and Dawn went to see a place. Letter from Es today. Bill up to the clinic today. Kennard called. Snow settled a lot.



Friday, February 11, 1966

Another very nice mild day. Betty came up, took me to town. I got the licenses off. Paid some bills, got groceries etc. Came home, read papers. Carmen didn’t feel too good today, a cold. Snow settled a lot. 40 to 60° above. 40° all night.



Saturday, February 12, 1966

Another nice one of those days. Snow settled a lot. Betty and Carmen up for the day and dinner and supper. Betty and I down town. Billie worked at Raymond in a.m., for Lawrence in p.m. Betty, Carmen and I took a little ride in p.m. Fern up here for supper.

Sunday, February 13, 1966

Cloudy day, is snowed and rained late. Betty and Carmen here all day. Fern, Lloyd called. Bill called out to work about 5 PM. Kennie and Dot called. Billie took Betty and Carmen home about six. Then we went down to Ferns. Billie and I picked the deep freeze over. A lot of the meat seems to be gone. Betty said Mike was over last night. He gave her a little more hope but???
