The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 6 - 8, 1983

 

Monday, June 6, 1983

 

Mostly cloudy in a.m. Some fog and drizzle. In PM there was some sun and late in PM it became hot and quite nice out. But that won’t last, it will get cloudy and rain by morning. JEFF moved to his new apartment today. Billie about the same today. Bill and Betty worked all day at the cottage up to Norway. I did a big wash. Made sloppy Joe’s for supper. I got the bills off today.

 

 

 

Tuesday, June 7, 1983

 

Yes it is cloudy and rainy again and foggy and showers this morning. I done up the work and got my ironing done early. Dorothea called, Jeff moved his things out yesterday. Billie about the same. Bill and Betty over to the cottage in a.m. Bill came home at noon and got ready and went to the doctors for checkup. Carmen, Jay and Debbie called after supper. Barry here in PM and said he would be here early Thursday morning to start porch. Oil man came, he said our furnace is in bad shape. Needs a new motor.

 

 

 

Wednesday, June 8, 1983

 

It was cloudy in a.m. It cleared in early PM. I did a wash. I watched TV soaps. Billie cold all the time, he don’t feel very good. Bill over to the cottage to work and came home at about noon. He planted rest of the garden. Also did a few other jobs. Betty and Walt to court with  Weary’s. Carmen called in here and had supper tonight. I cooked fish she got Sunday. Lisa called too.
