The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 28 - 30, 1983 Kim's Jr. Prom with Roger Smith

 

Thursday, April 28, 1983

 

Cloudy when we got up, but it soon cleared and very nice and warm. Bill worked out back. Billie trimmed, cleaned up outside, cleaned out the hens. I went to town with Dorothea, Susan and Delores. Came home, got lunch and then I finished the blue bathroom. Betty did her den, bathroom and washed some windows on the outside.

 

 

 

Friday, April 29, 1983

 

A beautiful day, very hot. I did a big wash. I finished cleaning the small bathroom then I stripped our beds, washed the bedding and cleaned my room. Washed curtains and all. It looks very nice. Roger came about 7:30. He went over to Sharon’s were Kim was babysitting.

 

 

 

Saturday, April 30, 1983 Junior and Senior Prom, Kim and Roger

 

Back in the rain. When we got up this morning it was raining, not a very good day. I done up my regular Saturday work. Washed floors, cooked, made custard, brownies, bread and rolls. Fern up today so as to see the kids. Tonight Kim and friend Roger E. Smith called on their way to the dance. They look like $1 million. Very nice looking couple. Kim and Roger cleaned the escort and Subaru. They look so nice.
