Monday, September 26, 1977 the Amish farms in Pennsylvania
It rained very hard when we left the room at white Sulfur Springs this morning. We had breakfast across the street from motel (a dirty one). It rained last night, we headed for the higher mountains, again we were up quite a ways. It rained so hard, we got up to the National Rock Bridge about 9:30. It had stopped raining. Dorothea and I went to see it. It is one of the seven wonders of the world they say. George Washington had carved his initials in the rock. We then started on up to finish the trip over the Blue Ridge Mountains. Became on up to the Lancaster Pennsylvania. It is a nice, clean and pretty state. A lot of beautiful farmlands. Tonight we have a beautiful very neat clean room just outside of Lancaster. Had lunch in the mountains. Supper at Gettysburg. Very nice place and meal.
Tuesday, September 27, 1977 Soundersburg, Pennsylvania
Up early this morning after a very good night sleep in a very neat motel. A town just outside of Lancaster Pennsylvania. It was a very nice clear morning. We went to a Danish restaurant, had breakfast then on to the Amish farm exhibit, a lecture and a tour of the farm. Then we took some pictures or Dorothea did of some of the Amish people, the horse and buggies. It is very interesting to see their methods and way they dress etc. We went to some gift shops and then had lunch and left there about 2:30 PM. We wanted to get out of Pennsylvania at least, it was a long distance. We came to the New York and Connecticut line and couldn’t get a motel to we got to Southington Connecticut. A very neat clean room $17.50. David was so tired. We ate at a very good diner across from the motel. I had a turkey dinner.
Wednesday, September 28, 1977 HOME
Up at about the usual time this 6 AM. Across the road had breakfast. Then we headed on out TO HOME. We left Southington Connecticut at about 8 AM, drove right through (stopped for gas once) to a small town on Route 16 in New Hampshire. (We took Rte 16 at Portsmouth). Came through Dover, Rochester and other small towns, New Hampshire then headed for Fryeburg and Bridgton. We all were so glad to get home and they all seemed pleased to see us. This house was neat and clean as a whistle and the rug looked very nice. Zak stayed here for supper. Fern, Esther, Cliff and Betty, Walt, Carmen, Kim and Zak all called in evening. Susan.
