The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

September 13 - 15, 1977

Tuesday, September 13, 1977 Rained

 

Rained most of the day. I done a lot of work in a.m. Cleaned car etc. Got ready, we went to Norway to see Lloyd and had a surprise anniversary 49th wedding party for them. Esther, Susan, Monica, Dot, Dorothea, Susan, Betty and I. Fern was very pleased. Lloyd was bewildered. Zak home with a bad cold.

 

 

 

Wednesday, September 14, 1977 JOY LEFT

 

Rained most of the day. Zak home again. Joy left to go home today. Dawn and Mabel moved in at Joy’s today. Zak up here all day while Betty and Dawn moved. I got a lot of things done.

 

 

 

Thursday, September 15, 1977 Zak eight years

 

Well, this is been a very nice day. I sure got a lot done today. Hair set, made brownies, cooked turkey. Had Zak up here for his birthday. I washed, ironed, cleaned the house. Susan and Monica called in PM. Vince and Chris called and Esther, Cliff and Fern called in evening. Betty been working at Dawn’s all day. Kim up in evening, also Carm called.
