The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

September 24- 25, 1976

Saturday, September 24, 1977 it sure hasn’t seemed like a Saturday

Had breakfast at Manchester ,Tennessee. Then we drove out to Nashville’s Grand Old Opry. We took the bus and touredthe Old Opry tour route. It was very interesting seen the country music stars homes. We went through the Grand Old Opry Theater or music hall and a lecture given on it, how it’s built etc. Then back to the new GOO building, we took a bus there and went to a show there. Saw Roy Acuff and many other stars. After that about 5 PM we have driven to Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

Partly cloudy. We left Elizabethtown, Kentucky at about 7:30 AM. Went to Lexington Kentucky to the bluegrass farms, took a tour around the farms and over the town or city of Lexington. Very interesting. Had dinner and then drove to Sulfur Springs West Virginia. Got a room. We rode over through Virginia mountains this PM. It was pretty but scary. Saw the coal mines and the miners homes.
