The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 1 - 4, 1973 Bonnie and Jim's Wedding


Friday, June 1, 1973 Beautiful Sun when we got up this morning

First time that we had seen the sun. Betty mowed her lawns. I worked there all day doing odds and end jobs. She is getting ready for the wedding Sunday.



Saturday, June 2, 1973 a cold windy day, a very nice clear pretty day

Today was the first clear day and no rain for a long long time. The wind has blown. I done regular work. Went to town. Milan came for a while. Betty was getting ready for the wedding. Bonnie and her mother helped her. Bonnie and Jim there for supper. Bill and Billie mowed lawns. Esther here in p.m. and for supper and stayed all night.



Sunday, June 3, 1973 A Beautiful Day, Bonnie and Jim

Up quite early, got breakfast. Esther here and Milan. Milan went to Readfield. Esther went home. It was a most beautiful day. Warm, sunny. Bonnie and Jim were married at Betty and Walt’s. There were many relatives and guests. They had a good time. Fern and I watched them while she was here. I watched rest of the time. Billie went with Lawrence. Bill and I went for a ride. Carmen and Kim up to show us their new clothes. They looked so very nice and Zak too.

























Monday, June 4, 1973 $50 Walt paid Bill

A pretty good day. Kind of showery. Bill began working at Betty’s on the foundation for the barn. Dexter McDaniels came and did the bulldozing for the waterpipe and holes with a cement blocks. Bonnie and Jim called at Betty’s. There leave to go on their wedding trip. Betty and I went up to Conway to grocery shop
