The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 24 - 27, 1972

The joy of posing for Christmas Cards

Friday, November 24, 1972

Partly cloudy but some sunshine. A breeze and warmer. I washed and the clothes dried good. Lloyd called, also Walt and Zak. A long long day. I did regular work, looked at catalogs. Billie out three or four times. He was bored all day. I got Christmas cards ready to go to Scotland.

The 1972 Winner!

Saturday, November 25, 1972 Judd gone again

Partly cloudy. I didn’t do much. I baked a few beans. Billie in and out a few times, nothing to do, uneasy. Bill went off. I had Kim up here in p.m. Betty and Walt took Judd away. Carmen called on a friend. Today Betty and Walt took Judd away. Dawn and her husband have him and I sure hope it will work out. If not???

Sunday, November 26, 1972 Rained

What’s a long day it was, miserable. Rained so hard all day. Billie was so bored. No one here except Betty and kids called in for a minute. Bill watched TV in PM. I cooked a steak supper. Esther and Cliff came over for a little while. This is been the longest week and each day dragged so long. I’m so glad tonight is here.

Monday, November 27, 1972

A cold windy day. I done up my work. I went to Portland with Betty. We didn’t get home very early. It was hard shopping around. Dorothea and we had a good time. She went with us.
