The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 16 - 19, 1972

Thursday, November 16, 1972 Nice sunny day

A beautiful day. I did rest of my washing. Down to Betty’s for a little while. Betty down to the school to see Carmen and Kim’s teachers. Very good report on both. The kids home again today at noon. Came up here in p.m. for a little while. Esther and Fern helped Betty make her applesauce today. Bill didn’t work today. I called at Ferns in evening.

Friday, November 17, 1972

A nice sunny day mostly. I done up my work, washed one, went with Betty to get her order. Came home, got lunch and went to town shopping. Bill down to Gordon’s in a.m. In evening Cliff, Esther and Billie called. A car went off the road down here on the bend, a George Sargent. No one hurt. Speeding.

Saturday, November 18, 1972

Cloudy in a.m. I done up my regular work, cooked and baked beans. Betty and Walt went to Lewiston shopping. I went down and stayed with the kids. Zak went with them. I did the dishes and swept the floors. Kids were good all day. This former Bill Harmon house burned today. Dolores called down to Betty’s today. It is now the Levine’s. Carmen and Zenya used to play with their boys, Donald and David.

Sunday, November 19, 1972

A nice day. I done up regular work. Carmen up here from Sunday school. I did my washing. Billie took Carmen and me up to see where the fire was and to see the car that was in the accident last Friday night.
