The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 31 - April 3, 1990 Bridal Shower for Kathy

Saturday, March 31, 1990

 

Cloudy and a miserable looking mess outside. Snow. We got about 4 inches since it started snowing yesterday p.m. I made a cake. David came and for coffee. Jason came and they took the tractor over to Norway. Zak here for coffee and Walt came up and picked them up. He gone to the training at Norway National Guard. There was a nice bridal shower a Kim’s today for Kathy Wolff. Kim, Cindy and Terry was the hostesses. It was very nice. She a lot of gifts. Kim down to Portland to spend the night with Debbie Woodbury.

 

 

 

Sunday, April 1, 1990

 

Cloudy again this morning, a miserable day. It is predicted for rest of week. I did the regular work. Walt up for coffee and Zack came. I looked at books, magazines etc. TV off all day. A long day. Kimmy down to Debbie Woodbury’s last night, went down after the party. The snow is all gone this morning. I made out the bills and wrote to Esther.

 

 

 

Monday, April 2, 1990

 

It seemed good to get up and see the bare ground again. Raining. I did the washing today. Carmen called a little while. Zack up for coffee. Got here early. He said he was going to look for jobs. I hope he gets one.

 

 

 

Tuesday, April 3, 1990 $442

 

Another rainy day. Not a steady one. Checks came. I mailed the bills out. Carmen took them to post office and cashed the checks today. Billie didn’t do much today. We watched TV soaps.
