The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 12 -15, 1990 Easter

Thursday, April 12, 1990 Kim 24 years

She had a nice day. She and her friend Tom on a two day outing by themselves, staying overnight in Portland and some other place. They did a dite of shopping. Came home Saturday PM to start getting ready for the Easter dinner at her house. We had snow flurries today at times, also the ground is quite white. It melted off in a little while.

A quite nice day for Good Friday, some sun. On the cool side. Carmen came and cleaned. Also to town and got some things. It seems I’m always having to get things. Betty dropped in a minute today. I did the washing today, got a lot of the B news read. Jason worked at Betty’s after school for a little while.

It has been a quite nice day, sunny and on the warmer side. David here for coffee. I baked beans, made rolls and a salad for Easter dinner. I got rest of the B news read. Zack called a little while. Jason worked at Betty’s all day.

Sunday, April 15, 1990 Easter Kim’s new home

Cloudy rainy day, too bad it being Easter. Zak and Walt up for coffee. Zack down to get the paper. Well we had a most delicious ham dinner and all the ham fixings also good. Walt, Betty, Zack, Dorothea, David, Fern, Betty S, Billie and me. My first meal at Kim’s. We had a nice day except the old rain coming down. Brud and Verna called also to see the house. Tom, Carmen, Kim and Brogan were tops at entertaining. Bro enjoyed all the people there.
