The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 28 - 30, 1990

Saturday, April 28, 1990

Carmen called and talked with Billie. He had a bad night, he is no better. Today Betty and crew at Twin Oaks cleaning up and working. Joy didn’t go. Another hot day, it looks like showers. Well I got up this morning early all alone. Kassie and I. I didn’t have much to do. Carmen and Betty called. Dorothea called and got me, we went up to camp for supper. Good Saturday night one. Dorothea was suffering with her problem. She looks sick. Billie not much better. All called on him. When we got home today a couple dogs attacked our hens and Walt’s. We got them all back. Zack had his car last night.

Sunday, April 29, 1990 Cloudy

Billie having dizzy spells last night, he told Carmen. Zak down to see him a couple times today, he shaved him. Betty, Walt down to see him. Also Dorothea and Kim. He hasn’t been too good. He is so depressed about his condition. I wrote to Esther. Carmen and Brogan called and Betty and Dorothea. I got my papers read.

Monday, April 30, 1990 RAIN

Betty came up and done the hens. Carmen sick. The rain is so puck. We have had so much miserable weather this spring. I did a wash today. Carmen, Brogan, Betty called and Dorothea. I will be glad when Wednesday comes, the day Dorothea goes to the hospital. They had been down to see Billie. When Betty was there Billie could lift his arm. Betty Smith and Dorothea up to Conway today. Billie had a lot of company today. Wally Edwards is in the room with him.
