The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Friday, March 23, 1990

 

It was a quite nice day. I washed. I read the papers, watched the soaps. David came and visited for a hour or two this forenoon. Carmen came and cleaned. A quite nice day.

 

 

 

Saturday, March 24, 1990

 

The sun was up and bright this morning. Billie had been sick during the night. He was better as the day wore on. David came for coffee this morning. I did regular work, got beans to baking. I made rolls. Carmen called for a little while. Kim worked, Zak didn’t call. Brogan over with her daddy’s today. Dorothea came and did Billie’s paperwork. Betty and Walt gone up to New Hampshire to get the paper etc. My rolls want very good tonight.

 

 

 

Sunday, March 25, 1990

 

A nice day, on the cool side. Walt up for coffee and Zack called. He had toast, coffee and OJ. I done up regular work. Carmen called in for a little while. Billie raked outside. Dorothea and Dave celebrated Dave’s birthday up to camp and out to supper. I looked at a box Betty brought up. Brogan came home tonight. Kim down to Tom’s for the day.

 

 

 

Monday, March 26, 1990

 

I did the washing. I got supper to going. I was busy. I got the papers read. David came down and helped with the tractor. Carmen and Brogan came for supper. She brought up a apple pie. Warm, it was very good. Kim brought up her albums for me to look at. They are good. I enjoyed seeing them.
