The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 23 - 26, 1990

 

Friday, February 23, 1990

 

Been busy. Washed, ironed, fixed my dress and a coat. I made brownies. Carmen and Brogan called. We watched TV PM and Eve. It has been a nice day, temps up to 61°, snow settled a lot and from the rain we got this past week. It began snowing this evening.

 

 

 

Saturday, February 24, 1990

 

Well, it was a mess when we got up this morning. Snow and more snow coming, blowing. Snow plow came in PM. I made rolls and baked red kidney beans. Carmen came and cleaned. Dennis came to Carmen’s and got Brogan till tomorrow. She was very pleased to go. It cleared late in PM, sun came out. Zack down to his mother’s this p.m. I pray for him every day. David down this morning for coffee.

 

 

 

Sunday, February 25, 1990

 

I worked at the desk making out the bills etc. Walt up for coffee this morning. Kim working today. Carmen had a date. Dennis brought Brogan home tonight. He enjoys her so much.

 

 

 

Monday, February 26, 1990

 

I did the washing. Also my ironing. I made a tasteless lemon pie. It was a nice pie. Only one lemon and it needs two. This was a nice day. Steve came and plowed. Also Jason came and shoveled. Zak came and got the car and went to work. I cooked a roast beef for supper. Very good. Betty, Carmen and Brogan called.
