The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A very nice sunny and warm day. We haven’t had many days like this for some time. I didn’t do much. Carmen came and cleaned. Also Betty was here and Kim. They done more painting at Betty’s. Dorothea called, she is going to Conway for a dress and rest of her dishes. I’m very concerned about her condition. I feel so bad for her. They all up to camp tonight.

Another one of those rainy dark miserable days. David and Zak came for coffee and talked. Zack took Carmen’s to the hospital over to Norway for checkup. She feels real bad and has for several days. I made a custard, done up the work. Got Billie’s lunch. His hands are just the same. Brogan gone to Lewiston today with her father for the day and overnight.

A nice sunny day. Walt up for coffee. Hope to the Lord Carmen is all right. 11 AM haven’t heard a word from her. She finally came in, is feeling better. She and I went for a ride over to Lovell, up through Sweden. She is looking for antiques. Betty and Walt up to camp all day, they enjoyed it very much. Quiet. No one around and it was beautiful. In evening Betty brought us up some banana splits and popcorn. Very good. Dennis brought Brogan home about six then he visited with Carmen and Brogan for a couple of hours or so.

A nice day, mostly sunny day. I did a washing. Made a mince pie. Very good. Warm. Carmen, Zack and Brogan here for supper. Carmen brought the steaks, got the supper. Then she washed the dishes. She still is having a touch of that stomach discomfort. Kim didn’t work today. She painted her mothers porch floor. Billie to Dr. Petrone for his checkup, nothing great. He had to have that before he goes for his eye operation.
