The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

September 9 - 11, 1983 Trip On Prince of Fundy (Scotia Prince)

Friday, September 9, 1983 the cruise to Yarmouth, got porch windows

 

A quite nice day. I done up my work and did a dite of wash. Hung it outside. It dried good. Today Billie got some important letters off and I paid his doctors. Bill and Carmen down to get windows (Coombs) for the new porch. Carmen out jobhunting again. MC TW at Raymond where Weldon works. She will get a job there possibly. Billie’s back gets worse am afraid. Dorothea called today. Well I called at Betty’s in PM to see the new roof, it looks very nice. Also I said goodbye to Zak. He was very pleased to get his letter today. Fern at Betty’s for supper. Tonight they left to go to meet the boat about 6:30 PM. They got on the boat about eight and leave at 9 PM. Name of the boat; the Prince of Fundy. Fern has wanted to go on this trip on the boat for a long time. Yarmouth Nova Scotia.

 

 



 




Saturday, September 10, 1983 Alan got his hand sawed today by a power saw

 

A very nice day. I done up my regular Saturday work and didn’t have anything to do rest of the day. I made rolls. At suppertime Betty and Walt were here. Kim was working. Carmen down to Allen’s, he got hurt. We left to go to the boat dock to get the folks. They was so awful tire. I mean tired. They enjoyed it very much. It was so nice.

 

 

 

Sunday, September 11, 1983 HOT

 

I done up my regular work. Dorothea called. Kimmy came up, went to the Twin Oaks camp, had sandwiches (Italians) didn’t stay up there too long. I wasn’t hungry anyway. Dorothea called in a.m. She brought some corn.
