The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 7 - 10, 1979 Wolff's Anniversary Dinner

Wednesday, March 7, 1979 Finished puzzle, RAIN, CLOUDY

Another rainy miserable day. Betty, Fern and I went over to Joy’s, we looked at some of Robert’s things. His trunk and BA souvenirs etc. Had a nice lunch. Came home, I finished my puzzle.

Well it has been cloudy, but no rain. I done my work, washed towels and shirts. Dried them at Betty’s. I washed kitchen floor. Then Betty took Delores, Fern, me to town. Fern got her hair set. I came home, took care of my clothes and cooked a roast pork supper.

Well it was clear most all day. It was sunny enough and a good breeze so my clothes all dried good. I got them in and ironed. I watched the 2 programs.

Saturday, March 10, 1979

Well it has been a snowy dreary day. I cooked, done up the house work, made bread, cookies and cake. Cindy Wolff was here for supper. Joy folks called after supper. Kim and Kathy here in PM and made cabbage salad. Betty had the Wolff’s for supper in observance of the Wolff’s 21st wedding anniversary.
