The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 23 - 26, 1979

A very very nice sunny day and temp up to 70 and 80. I cleaned up the house or did regular work. Did some washing. Then I went down to Betty’s and got a lot of her house done while she went to Mrs. Guyer’s funeral. Then she came back and cleaned up the upstairs. I got home in time to see my programs. Zak up here for the night. He is real good when he is alone.

A very nice day but the wind and clouds came in from the South East and at darkness it began to rain. Anyway we have had a very nice sunny and mild week and the snow settled a lot. These past 4 days have been beautiful typical March days. Old-fashioned like. Today was sunny all day. Zak watched TV all morning. In PM he went up to shelter, helped me do the ironing. Later on he had a good bath and at 5:30 went home to go to the supper with Walt. I did my Fridays work today, made rolls for the supper.

Well this is been a miserable day. Cloudy, heavy rains and foggy. I didn’t do much except the regular work. Dorothea and David came for a while. In late PM Zak came up for a few minutes. All was boring with him down at the house. Bill and Billie didn’t do much either. Billie and I down to Fern’s for a little while. Dorothea has lost weight. Snow went a lot last night during the heavy rain.

Another cloudy foggy dreary day. I worked at the desk all day. Bill worked on the truck. He did a very good job painting it and fixing it up. Snow is going fast now.
