The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 26 - March 2, 1979

Monday, February 26, 1979 SCHOOLS CLOSED AT NOON

It has been a bad day. Wind, snow, sleet and rain. The kids were dismissed from school at noon. Bad traveling. I went down to Betty’s for a while today. Bill didn’t do much today. I worked on the puzzle today.

Tuesday, February 27, 1979 No School

Not a very good day. No school. I done odds and end jobs. Bill did get out much. No school in many places. A bad snow and sleet storm.

Wednesday, February 28, 1979

A nice day. I done up my work, down to Betty’s. She, Fern and I looked at snapshots.

Thursday, March 1, 1979

A beautiful day. I washed down to Betty’s. Came home, did my ironing. Went to town with Susan and Delores.

Friday, March 2, 1979

Cloudy and snowy or rainy. Well, I got my windows washed, dusting done than other chores. In PM we went to town, cashed the checks. Fern, Delores and ours. Billie and Ilan worked on Ilan’s car in PM. I had a salt fish supper and Fern was here.
